About the Wallace E. Smith Young Designer Scholarship

The Wallace Smith Scholarship for young designer is a $1,000 annual scholarship awarded to one lucky student who meets the requirements below. To qualify, you must…

  • Currently be attending high school in Sarasota or Manatee County in Florida.
  • Be enrolled at an accredited, four-year college or university in the fall of 2017 for your freshman year.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in art or design.
  • Be majoring in art, design, architecture, or a related field.
  • Achieved a 3.0 (out of 4.0) GPA (or equivalent on another scale).

The scholarship winner will be selected and notified at the end of June.

2020 Winner: Hannah Brady. Hannah graduated from Sarasota High School and now wants to pursue a career that combines her passion for art and her interest in music.
2019 Winner: Caroline Griffith. Caroline will be attending Florida State University to pursue a career that combines her passion for art and her interest in science.
2018 Winner: Destiny Summerville, a 2018 graduate of Braden River High School. She will be attending Ringling College of Art & Design to pursue her dream of working in art.
2017 Winner: Elise Adel, a 2017 graduate of Riverview High School. Elise will be attending Santa Fe Community College initially, and then she will transfer to the University of Florida to pursue her dream of becoming an architect.
